Essentially, beetles live and crawl around trees, grass, and other streamside vegetation. As the days goes on and temperatures warm, beetles will crawl up larger vegetation where they are more prone to the wind and may occasionally take flight. These guys are occasionally knocked to streams, rivers, or lakes by wind or other means. It’s at this time that they can become available to trout.
When beetles hit the surface of the water, most of them appear stunned and don’t put up much resistance.
